prevent thousands of unwanted companion animals by providing free and low

hosted at community centers and gymnasiums in
“Hot Spots” (zip codes
where most stray and relinquished animals come from).

UA4A Spay/Neuter Clinics can handle between 75-100 dogs & cats at each
clinic.  The clinics are staffed with 15-25 volunteers, 4-6 vets and 8-12 vet
techs, depending on pre-registration.  The hours of operation are from 6:30am
– 6:30pm with intake for the public beginning at 8:00am and pick up starting at

Facts:
An average of 111 dogs & cats are dumped into New York City shelters each
day. Approximately 50% of them are killed each day primarily due to not enough
homes.

1+1= 67,000-  One unspayed female dog, her mate and offspring can produce
67,000 puppies in 6 yrs.

Each day 10,000 babies are born in the United States.

Each day 70,000 puppies & kittens are born in the United States.

This leaves 5 million pets without homes each year.

Spaying eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and  greatly reduces
the incidence of breast cancer.

Neutering eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of prostate
disease.

Neutering cats makes them less likely to spray and mark territory.

Unsterilized animals often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems than
do those who have been spayed or neutered.

Spaying and neutering can make pets less likely to bite.

Neutering makes pets less likely to roam the neighborhood, run away, or get into
fights.

UA4A’s first clinic opened on January
17, 2010 in the Bronx.  This was
after two years of spay/neuter
research, due diligence and fund
raising.  In addition, UA4A created a
relationship with NYCHA, who
graciously posts our spay/neuter
flyers in their apartment buildings,
which has been very targeted, low
cost and effective.

UA4A follows JAVMA guidelines for
“MASH”-style spay/neuter clinics,
which are also endorsed by the
ASPCA.
